Speech and Language Therapy
Speech is the verbal means of communication consisting of articulation, voice and fluency. Disorders can arise when an individual has difficulty producing sounds due to the incorrect placement of the lips, tongue and mouth. Speech disorders can consist of, childhood apraxia, dysarthria, stuttering, speech sounds disorders, orofaical myofunctional disorders, and voice disorders.
Language consists of socially shared rules that include how to put words together, how to make new words, what words mean and what word combinations are best in a given situation. Language Disorders may include Expressive Language Delays, Receptive Language Delay among various language based delays. At times these may be present due to development or as a result from diagnosis such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down syndrome, Fragile X, ADHD, Intellectual Disability and more.
